Escape to What - The Event

I confess I wasn’t really aware of  Escape to What until  main man James Orez dropped me a nice little email asking if I’d like to review his latest album The Event and, of course, I said yes coz I’m that kinda gal….

Now then, before I go any further I would say that if you’re the type of person who loves a bit of the charts, some Radio 1 and the x-factor, I suggest you keep your coat on and go to the pub. If, however, you’re a fan of loud, raucous, harsh and spiky industrial sounds, take a seat and I’ll get you a drink and a hobnob.

I always promise honesty and so I’ll say straight away that this genre of music isn’t usually on my radar and so, as I know precious little about it,  all I can do is speak as I find.

So, best track on the album for me has to be Track 1 - The Vacant Ones. This has nothing to do with the fact that I’ve heard this track many times more than the rest of the album because, for whatever reason, it’s the only one that my phone/car Bluetooth combination thingy would play until I managed to exorcise the goddam technology demons! Anyway, I digress, so heading back to the important stuff, I really rate this track. It’s one of those tunes that buries itself in the far corners of  your brain and keeps popping up to remind you it’s there at any given opportunity.

The rest of the album follows suit with the guitars and bass provided by Jan O and Chris 'Sketi' Drinkel,  fighting with the angry vocals, drumbeats and experimental electronic sounds.  One thing to note, you MUST listen to it LOUD and, having now listened to the album on several different devices,  I recommend you listen to it  though a decent set of headphones or speakers so you can fully on appreciate the excellent production and all those little extra bits that make this album what it is. By the way, the prize for best song title goes to ‘Hear Me Rattle I Am Broken’ – just love that!

You can keep up with Escape to What all over the place – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, tumblr, soundcloud and their website! Pay them a visit, why don’t you, and show your support.

The Event is a 7 track album which you can stream, or preferably buy, from Bandcamp and hard copy CDs are also available - they look great, with a 4 page booklet and a badge! I love a good badge!

Before I go, an apology to James – sorry this has taken so long. Better late than never though………….
